Can I, as a beginner, attend any class? Where should I start?

Yes! Though, as a beginner, I recommend starting with a Basics or FUNdamentals class as these are ideal for new students! In these classes basic poses are introduced at a comfortable pace with emphasis on alignment while exploring movement within the poses. All classes are challenging in different ways and classes will have different levels attending.

How often should I practice Yoga?

Successful yoga practice requires consistency and discipline. Practice a minimum of twice a week to see results. For overall transformation, practice 4 – 6 times a week. For cross training and for injury prevention, once a week is suitable. Try to get in 3 – 4 days a week for your first 10 classes, just to jumpstart your routine.

Should I eat before or after class?

If you do eat before yoga eat light. The recommend is to eat at least two hours before class and wait at least a half hour after class to eat. It is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Avoid drinking excessive fluids right before as this may make you nauseas or uncomfortable during class. Bring water to drink before, during, and after.

What do I need to wear? What should I avoid wearing?

Wear comfortable exercise clothing that will not overheat or overly bind. Jeans, shoes, and belts are discouraged as they make yoga more difficult, are binding, and uncomfortable. Remove your shoes at the door and change into your bare feet. Please do NOT wear perfume or other scents, and we recommend not wearing makeup.

What equipment do I need?

All you need is your own body, bare feet, and a yoga sticky mat. Mats, blocks, bolsters, straps and other props may be available. Please set up your yoga mat (if you have one) and any other needed props before class begins. We sell yoga mats and make recommendations.

Can I talk during class and ask questions?

Absolutely! We love questions and love interacting with our students. However, please keep banter to a minimum to maintain a quiet atmosphere.

*Practice Quiet Stillness between poses- You are encouraged to practice at your own pace and when you need to take a break from a pose do so without distracting others.

*Focus on Yourself – This is a time to get to know yourself better. Focus your attention on yourself and the space on your own yoga mat, not on others.

*Talk to the Instructor- before or after class if you have questions or concerns, special needs, or injuries.
